Would a chatbot pay for itself in your business?

Put in how many conversations you handle by hand, how many a chatbot could answer on its own, and how many enquiries arrive when nobody is there. You get the value a chatbot could add and when it pays back. If it would not, it says so.

Five questions. We use typical figures for the rest.

A worked example

A business gets about 400 website conversations a month, and a chatbot could answer 60% of them on its own, saving around 170 staff hours a year on cautious figures. It also captures some of the 40 enquiries a month that arrive when nobody can reply, worth about £4,700 a year in profit on a £450 job. Together that is about £8,500 a year on cautious figures, against £5,000 to set up and £299 a month, so it pays for itself in roughly twelve months. Your own figures will differ, which is the point of the calculator.

What it counts

  • Staff time saved on conversations a chatbot answers alone.
  • Extra leads captured when nobody can reply.
  • The profit those leads bring in at your win rate and margin.

What it leaves out

  • Conversations a chatbot hands to a person, which still need staff.
  • Effects on customer satisfaction or your brand, good or bad.
  • Your own time to set the chatbot up and keep it accurate.

Questions people ask

How do you calculate chatbot ROI?

Chatbot ROI (%) = (total benefits minus total costs) ÷ total costs × 100. Benefits are staff time saved plus profit from extra out-of-hours leads. Costs are set-up and monthly fees. The calculator also shows the payback period and your position after one and three years.

How much does an AI chatbot cost in the UK?

A custom AI chatbot starts from £5,000 set-up plus £299 a month, excluding VAT. These are our published starting prices, and a chatbot with CRM integration costs more. You can change both figures in Advanced.

Is a website chatbot worth it?

It is when the staff time it saves plus the profit from the leads it captures is greater than what it costs. The calculator leads with the cautious case and says plainly if it would not pay back within three years.

How does a chatbot save money?

By answering routine questions such as opening hours, prices and order status without a person, and by taking details from visitors when nobody is available. The calculator values both, then sets them against set-up and monthly cost.

What is a good ROI for a chatbot?

There is no single good figure. A chatbot is worthwhile if it pays back within a period you accept, even on cautious assumptions, so look at the payback period as well as the percentage.

What does answering alone mean?

A conversation the chatbot finishes without a person stepping in. Simple, repeated questions are the best candidates. Anything unusual or sensitive still goes to a person, so the share is never 100%.

Are these figures a promise?

No. It is an estimate built from the numbers you enter and a small set of assumptions that are shown on the page. Real results depend on your business and how well the service is set up. Check your figures against your own records before you commit to anything.

Is my information stored?

The numbers you type stay in your browser. We record that the calculator was used and the verdict it gave, not your figures. Nothing is sent to us unless you press the send button and give us your contact details.
